For anyone who has used macromedia software, it may seem like something that comes naturally, inborn knowledge. Experienced programmers as well as toddlers can do so many things just by popping into the macromedia disk. However, training will be needed for beginners to macromedia.
The Macromedia family has many and varied uses. Web design, for example, is made easy by Adobe ColdFusion, which creates very dynamic websites. It has the same functionality as PHP or ASP programming languages for scripting. The design, development and editing aspects of website making are made easy by the use of Adobe Contribute, which will allow different people of the same organization to give ideas and make alterations to a website.
Adobe Dreamweaver allows the viewing of website design in real time instead of having to go through so many lines of programming script. It will show how scripts will display online and, what is more, it is not necessary for one to be a programmer to use them.
Macromedia Authorware provides online learning solutions. This is a flowchart based programming language used to develop interactive applications and integrate them into multimedia content. Adobe Director was known for animation initially, but today it is used for CD-ROM making or standalone kiosks. Animation in three-dimensional games can also be developed with it.
Adobe Fireworks is known for graphics editing. It integrates graphics into other Macromedia content such as Dreamweaver when developing websites. Vector graphics can be created using the FreeHand package. This package is also useful in desktop publishing.
Macromedia Flash and Shockwave are the most well known of the Macromedia family.
Multimedia content can be played using Macromedia Shockwave players, which were initially developed independently to play Flash programs. Dynamic and attractive websites, heavy in animation use Flash. However, search engines fail to pick it up, which reduces readable content of the website. This might be a negative to the site’s popularity, which leads many website designers to shy away and opt to do their own scripting. Flash and Shockwave are very dependent on each other for dynamic sites.
Most of the packages in Macromedia are by Adobe. For ease of use and more familiarity, further training in programming is needed to enable accurate crafting of the scripts as required. This will help develop better running and more functional applications. So macromedia is about efficient use of programming for a variety of needs and not just popping a disk into the drive.
